What’s Covered in the Lessons?

Lesson 1 – Characteristics of the Consummate Leader

In this introductory lesson, I provide you with an overview of the course so you’ll know how to navigate everything and make the most of all the resources.  Then, I will share the 7 keys to consummate leadership to give you some context for the rest of the material.

Lesson 2 – Self-Awareness

Although the course is about leading other people, we will be starting with you. In Lesson 2, we will be covering the importance of being self-aware as a foundation for everything else that will follow, and I will give you lots of practical strategies and deep questions to get you to the point that you know yourself inside and out.

Lesson 3 – Spirituality

Leaders are much more effective when their work actually means something to them, and when they can communicate an inspiring sense of purpose to their team. In this lesson, I help you to clarify your own sense of purpose and give you a step-by-step guide to instilling a sense of purpose in those who work for you.

Lesson 4 – Self-Management

Strong leaders know how to manage themselves effectively. Whether it is managing self-doubt, managing your beliefs about personal growth, or managing your energy levels, lesson 4 will give you the tools you need to bring your best self to the table.

Lesson 5 – Positivity

Research shows that positive people get the best results. I’m not talking about a Pollyanna approach in which you don’t address issues, nor am I suggesting you paste on a fake smile that everyone can see through. We’re talking genuine positivity. In Lesson 5, I outline some of the research that explains why this is so important, and give you scientifically-proven strategies to give your level of positivity a boost.

Lesson 6 – Authenticity

Sometimes we can get so caught up in playing the role of a leader that we can be reluctant to be ourselves. However, effective leaders know how to bring their true selves and perspectives to the table with confidence. In this lesson, I will explain why being authentic is so critical to strong leadership, and provide you with actionable tips to be appropriately assertive and “real” so others can appreciate your full self.

Lesson 7 – Relationship Building

Although some people believe that the personal and professional shouldn’t mix, consummate leaders know that they are best able to influence others who know, like, and trust them. In Lesson 7 we discuss the importance of interpersonal connection for effective leadership, and give you some strategies and things to think about so you can ensure your relationship building skills are up to par.

Lesson 8 – Coaching and Developing

The heart of great leadership is not only getting your people to do what you have assigned to them; it is also developing them for bigger and better things. In this lesson, we will cover some fascinating research about the best way to coach others, along with an in-depth section on how to give effective feedback that makes sure everything is said (even tough messages), in a way that people can still feel good about.

Can’t wait! Let me know when the course is live!

Patricia helped me get through a tough spot, and I will always appreciate her suggestions and friendship. I hope she realizes the positive impact she has on people.

And in case you haven’t met me yet…

I’m Dr. Patricia Thompson, and I’m a corporate psychologist who helps leaders engage and inspire their people by teaching them how to develop their talents, unleash their authentic selves, and use research-based strategies to help others fulfill their potentials. On my way to getting my PhD, I was educated at the University of Toronto, Georgia State University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Emory University School of Medicine. I’ve won awards for teaching, research, and being a general over-achiever in the classroom. For the past 10 years I have been consulting with organizations ranging from small businesses on up to Fortune 500 companies, helping them to foster growth, development, and results in their people. I get a great deal of personal gratification from helping people, whether it is a college student determining his career path, an entry level manager working on being more productive, a CEO determining how best to motivate the people on her team, or a random person needing directions on the street. I LOVE what I do, and am committed to helping you get the best outcomes possible.

Why I Created the Program

I wrote The Consummate Leader because frequently during coaching sessions with clients, they would ask for book suggestions. I struggled to think of books I could recommend that took the holistic research-based approach to professional development that I have seen to be so effective in creating change. So, (somewhat naively) I figured, why not write it myself? A year later I completed it (during my pregnancy and maternity leave), and have been thrilled with all of the great feedback I have gotten about how it has helped others to develop their leadership skills.

I created The Consummate Leader Online Course because some people suggested that they wanted more structure in terms of external accountability and guidance to help them to move through the concepts in the book. In addition, as someone who keeps my nose in a journal, I am always coming across new research and helpful information I want to share. I know that not everyone has the luxury of being able to work one-on-one with an executive coach, so I decided to put together a program that would provide lots of information, resources, and step-by-step guidance to help people to develop into outstanding leaders.

In my work, I have seen the effects of great leadership.

It elevates people, inspires them, and allows teams to accomplish audacious goals.

It is truly a beautiful thing, and I want to cultivate more of that in the world. But the course isn’t about me talking. It’s about you learning, experimenting with new behaviors, and growing, both personally and professionally. Subscribe to be notified when The Consummate Leader Online Course launches.
